The Open Division of the Emerald City Softball Association (ECSA) is gearing up for its 2008 season — and we are looking for new players.
The first of two New Player Skills Clinics is set for Saturday, February 9th, noon to 2 p.m., at the Rainier Playfields in South Seattle. Rainier Playfields are located on Rainier Ave. S. at the corner of Cloverdale Street (Rain date is Sunday, February 10th, same time, and same place). The second Skills Clinic is set for Saturday, March 1st, noon to 2 p.m., at the Rainier Playfields in South Seattle. The New Player Skills Clinic is a chance to hit, field, and catch a few softballs and meet teams that are looking for new players. Bringing a softball mitt is a great idea, but extra equipment should be available to borrow.
Our league should be around 30 teams this season –a new record – and there are still plenty of teams looking for players of all skill levels. Teams are formed based by experience and skill level of the players, allowing recreational teams to play against other recreational teams.
The playing season runs from early-April through mid-July (with our playoffs) and is open to everybody: men and women, gay and non-gay. Much of the growth in the league over the past several years has been at the beginner or recreational level – and the league expects this trend to continue as more and more people learn about the league.
Gay softball is a great way to meet new people and enjoy spending time outdoors in an organized activity. Many of the new players are relatively new to the game, without much experience playing baseball or softball. The upper divisions of the league are great for experienced jocks too. These upper division teams are also open to both gay and straight players, which can be a great way to play on a team with friends.
